Zeltiq is a company that has industrialized a new way to reduce fat cells in a safe, non-invasive technique called “Cryolipolysis™” also known as coolsculpting. The specific device created has been FDA-approved in the U.S. for cooling skin and for some anesthetic purposes. It has also been used in Europe and Canada for fat reduction since mid 2009 and is now available here in the US. The method is pretty simple in that is uses very cold temperatures to reduce fat cells and improves the body contour.
How CoolScultping Works
The Zeltiq Coolsculpting process takes place in a doctor’s office, such as a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. It is a fairly easy procedure as there is no anesthesia needed or recovery time required. You will be sitting in a comfortable chair while the device is placed on the area you wish to lose the fat deposits (stomach, arms, legs, etc.) A vacuum like device draws the skin and fat into a cup with light pressure. The tool then becomes cold enough to target only the fat cells in that area without damaging the skin. The body reacts to this cold with an inflammatory response which causes the body to naturally dispose of the damaged fat cells. Once the cells are disposed of, you will see a significant improvement in the shape of the body.
Some patients may also be somewhat uncomfortable with the contact of the cold as the procedure begins- this usually goes away after the first 10 minutes or so. You might experience a tingling or numbness sensation during or after and this too should go away quickly. After the treatment is completed, patients may immediately return to their normal activities including work and exercise.
Results With Zeltiq
A few days after the procedure, the chilled fat cells begin a process called “apoptosis” and start to shrink. Over a period of several months, the fat cells are digested by our bodies and removed through the liver. The procedure of Coolsculpting is very effective and is producing constant results for specific areas of fat like the stomach pooch or ‘man-breasts’, though larger areas of fat may require more invasive treatments.
Good Candidates for Zeltiq
The best candidate for Zeltiq is someone who is in pretty good shape, but has modest areas of fat bulges that they’d like removed or they find those specific areas difficult to loose weight in. It’s not an alternative to healthy diet or lifestyle and should be considered as something to do in addition to benefiting your overall body contouring plans. It is a fantastic alternative to liposuction for many with a much cheaper price tag at around $1500 a session with some people requiring just the one session to see adequate results.
Possible Side Effects with Coolscuplting
Side effects are usually mild and related to the cold of the device which diminishes within 10 minutes or so. Skin may be red for several minutes to several hours and some bruising is possible if you have sensitive skin, if this persists for more than that you should contact your doctor. Other side effects may include temporary bruising, tingling, tenderness, temporary dulling of sensation or cramping. Be sure to let your doctor know if you have any blood clotting disorders and tell the doctor the medications you are taking because side effects can vary.

Great Zeltiq Experience
I had a stubborn bit of fat on my lower belly from having 2 c-sections. No matter how hard I worked out it was not going away. As soon as I found out about Zeltiq I went in for a consult, found out I was a perfect candidate and scheduled my first appointment. It was a little uncomfortable the first time, mostly because I really didn’t know what to expect, but overall it wasn’t that bad. I had to go in 2 times, each time I had an application on each side of my lower abs. It has now been 2 months and I really see the difference. My old jeans fit, they haven’t fit in 7 years, since I got pregnant with my first child. I am really happy with my experience.

Zeltiq… I’m sold!
Had it done on my lower abdomen; one on each side, total 2 hrs. Did it 5 wks. ago & very happy w/results. I had twin boys 2 yrs. ago & just couldn’t lose that extra fat there. Started noticing significant results in just 3 wks. & hope for more as the weeks pass. I want to do more on my lower back/beneath the bra. It works & I recommend it.

Zeltiq really works.
I had 2 treatments on lower abdomen and one on the upper on the same day. I have this round “bagel” looking type of fat around the belly button. No pain except mild cramping. The entire area was numb for two weeks and then by 3 to 4 weeks all feeling had returned. At 3 weeks I could already see the fat decrease. At week four now and there is no fat under the navel and a little mound left on the right side. I never thought about it not evenly decreasing the fat. I really could not afford to do another set but one treatment more and I don’t think I will have any fat left. I going for it if at 2 months there is any fat still there!

Don’t waste your money
I had the zeltiq procedure done on my abdomen and love handles. I am 5’6” tall and weigh 132lbs with 21.6% body fat. I had the procedure done exactly 2 months ago and have not noticed any change whatsoever. It was a complete waste of $2250 considering the doctor put the machine on my upper and lower abs and once on each side for my love handles.
