The Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette is Back!

Although shimmer eyeshadow has been around for a long time it lost it’s popularity because it just didn’t have staying power. When I was a young girl I had a shimmer eyeshadow palette but I found I had to put on a ton of it just to get any kind of effect. It might look OK in the mirror when I finished but after a short period of time I’d check again and discover it had lost all of it’s ‘shimmer’. Eventually I just gave up on the whole look.

Today shimmer makeup is back in vogue thanks mainly to the higher quality ingredients which give you the shimmer look without needing to apply a lot plus they have staying power giving a nice shimmery look for hours.

The shimmer metallic look is also now common for daytime or nighttime. The new palettes can help you create a look which is subtle but sexy. In the past shimmer makeup was, well I’ll say it, kind of a slutty or immature look. It made you look cheap. That’s no longer true as the higher quality ingredients really work.

Over the past few years quality shimmer eyeshadow palettes have made their way back stage and into the makeup tables. Models are being done up with stunning shimmer looks thanks to the talented use of these awesome palettes.

Chanel models have been working it with the shimmer effect and a lot of girls are wanting to create the look at home or for the club scene. It’s almost like someone figure out a way to plug their eyes in or implanted tiny silver lights in their lids! The look is just stunning especially when the pros know how to blend and mix for a perfect outfit match.

Some look like a fairy dusted their eyelids and to a degree that’s true – the fairy being the eye makeup pros and the fairy dust being shimmer powder. A complete ‘ethereal look’ is made up also dusting the shimmer powder lightly over the face. A softer effect can be created by spot dusting the shimmer powder where light hits your face. In other words the cheek tops, your forehead, the end of your chin and nose. Essentially places where any light source would typically highlight.

The day time look means a gentler application of shimmer eyeshadow. Work with light metallic shades and check out the simple eye make up tips for more help.

For night time, you want to work with bold, bright colours of shimmer eye shadow. Combine with a strong eye liner and cover the upper lash-line making it thicker at the outside edge for a dramatic effect. Think ‘Egyptian’. That look is really back in style. It’s the cats-eye effect.

The smoky eye look blended with a shimmery metal finish is another popular choice. Go with a metallic green, or any other vibrant color. Pick a well matched shimmer pencil, smudge and then apply metallic eyeshadow over top.
