How To Treat Dry Skin Effectively

Dry skin is a skin condition that can range from very mild to very serious. For most people, dry skin affects them only during the winter months, but in severe cases, it can affect people throughout the entire year. Although dry skin can be irritating on any part of the body, dry facial skin can be extremely inconvenient.

When you have dry facial skin, it can be an embarrassing issue that is difficult to control. For women who have dry facial skin, wearing makeup can sometimes act as an irritant and cause skin to be overly dry. In many cases, makeup brushes and sponges can make dry skin more noticeable.

Remember that exfoliating is an essential step in treating dry skin. Many times when people hear the term “exfoliation” they feel that it only refers to facial exfoliation, but you can actually exfoliate your entire body. Exfoliation is the process of removing dead layers of skin so that you see fresher, younger looking skin.

The older we get, the more difficult it is for our skin to renew itself and for this reason exfoliation is an essential part of every skin can regimen. Many times people mistakenly use overly strong exfoliators that are too harsh for their skin. Instead of trying to remove all of the dead skin cells at once, try a gentle exfoliator that you can use on a daily basis. If your skin is sensitive, you may want to consider exfoliating once or twice a week.

Drinking water helps treat dry skin because it moisturizes our bodies from the inside out. You should make it a habit to drink 8-10 glasses of water per day. After just a few days of drinking proper amounts of water, you will notice that your skin will not only seem less dry, but water also helps to flush toxins from your skin, and this is helpful for maintaining clear, blemish free skin.

While you are moisturizing from the inside out, it is also helpful to use a topical moisturizer. Many times people get carried away with moisturizers and actually end up using the wrong types of moisturizers. If you are prone to facial breakouts, it is important to use a moisturizer that is oil free. If you have aging skin, consider a moisturizer with anti aging properties. No matter what your skin type, be sure to use a moisturizer that will not clog your pores.

Taking vitamins is a great way to ensure that your skin stays moisturized. Sometimes dry skin is a form a vitamin and nutrient deficiency, so taking a daily vitamin can aid in treating overly dry skin.

In an attempt to treat dry skin, many people make the mistake of using a face or body soap that is too harsh and actually causes dryness. Make sure you use a gentle soap that is right for your skin type, and don’t wash your face too many times throughout the day because that can cause additional dryness. Instead, wash your face once in the morning and once at night.

To improve the overall look of your skin, it can be beneficial to brew white or green tea and refrigerate it in a small spray bottle. When you feel that your face is getting too dry, you can mist a little bit of the tea onto your face. Green and white teas are great because they help to balance the skin without making it too oily or too dry. Treating dry skin can be easily taken care of if you find the right products and maintain a good beauty regimen daily.
