Armpit Hair Growth in Girls

Developing armpit hair can be frustrating but it is normal for everyone. It generally occurs during puberty, so anywhere between the ages of 8 and 13. It grows so the body can retain heat and also as a vessel for sexual pheromones. Most of us use deodorants or perfumes, so pheromones are not really a consideration, and the hair is generally considered unsightly so most of us just remove it.

A girl’s armpit hair can grow to look fine and light, or coarse and dark, or anywhere in between. It often depends on someone’s coloring and hair type, and is sometimes a few shades darker. The hair usually only covers the hollow of the armpit, but can cover a larger area.

Armpit hair growth in girls is only a part of a greater process the body will be undergoing, puberty. Along with armpit hair, girls may experience acne, growth spurts, and most notoriously, mood swings. These all add frustration and difficulty to this time in a girl’s life, so the good news is that armpit hair can be gotten rid of fairly easily!

When removing the hair, you must remember that it can grow in several different directions in a short area, making waxing very difficult. On the same grounds, a razor can pull the hair unless it is brand new. You should make sure that the razors you use are sharp and take care so that you don’t nick or cut the sensitive skin. Blunt razors can contribute to ingrown hairs or cause rashes that are not only unsightly but painful. It’s always a good idea to use a special shaving gel or cream that is designed for use on more sensitive skin.
